Kathina Ceremony at the Letchworth Buddhist Vihara - October 2009 |

After three month rains retreat of the Venerable Maha Sangha at the Letchworth Buddhist Vihara. It was culminated with a grand Katina ceremony, which was held on Sunday the 04th October at the Letchworth Free Church Hall in Letchworth Garden City with over 300 devotees participation.
Mr & Mrs Wimal Alahakon & family members were the principal sponsors of the event.
The Kathina Robe, holy relics and other sacred objects were taken in the Kathina procession including Kandian drummers. A large number of children and adults with flower poles and Buddhist flags joined the procession, which travelled around the town centre.
Venerable Bogoda Seelawimala Nayaka Thero, the head of the London Buddhist Vihara and Venerable monks from the London Buddhist Vihara, Themes Buddhist Vihara, Scotland Budhist Vihara, Leicester Buddhist Vihara and Edmonton Buddhist Vihara attended the ceremony in addition to the resident monks at the Letchworth Buddhist Vihara.
Special felicitation also took place to congratulate the Venerable Kamburawala Sri Rewatha Thero to extend good wishes as he was recently bestowed upon with a honour of 'Chief Sangha Nahake of Great Britain' by the Sri Lankan Sangha Council ( Kotte Chapter).
Kathina Dana along with the Kathina Cheevara was offered to the holy community of monks with great respect and devotion. This was followed by Kathina Dansela to all the participants.
Special Dhamma talks were given by Venerable Dodampahala Sri Rahula Thero and Venerable Kamburawala Sri Rewatha Thero, which were very well received.
While the management committee of the Vihara was organising the ceremony under the guidance of Venerable Nahalle Rahula thero, the head of the Vihara and the residence monk Venerable Nallure Sangharathana Thero, members of the Vihara and well wishes, who had come from many part of the country had given their fullest support towards the success of the ceremony.
