A special Dhamma Desana (sermon) was held at Letchworth Buddhist Temple on 19th February 2011 to commemorate the significance of Navam full moon day. This sermon was conducted by Ven.Teldeniye Amitha Thero a resident monk of Leicester Buddhist Vihara.
NAVAM full moon day celebrates the entrance into the order of two main disciples of the Buddha, Arahanth Sariputta and Arahanth Maha Moggalana. This day also celebrates Buddha proclaiming for the first time a code of fundamental ethical precepts (PAATIMOKKA DESANA) for the monk disciples. Lord Buddha’s special announcement of his death (PARINIBBANA) that would take place “within three months” , also a remarkable incident happened on this day.
This event was organized by Ven.Nallure Sangha Rathana Thero the head of the Centre alone with resident monks, devotees & members of the Buddhist Community Centre Letchworth(BCCL). Dr.Sedevi Peris & children sponsored the programme.
