After three month of rains retreat the Venerable Maha Sangha at the Letchworth Buddhist Vihara culminated the ‘vassana period’ with a grand Katina ceremony, which was held on Saturday the 30th October at the Letchworth Free Church Hall in Letchworth Garden City with participation over 250 devotees.Dr. Sarath Chandrasena and family members were the principal sponsors of the event.

The Kathina Robe, holy relics and other sacred objects were paraded in the Kathina procession which was lead by traditional Kandian drummers. A large number of children and adults with flower poles and Buddhist flags joined the procession.

Venerable Pahalagama Somarathane Nayake thero, the head of the Thames Buddhist Vihara and residents monks,Venerable Bogoda Seelawimala Nayaka Thero, the head of the London Buddhist Vihara. Venerable Kamburawale Siri Rewatha, the head of the Scotland Buddhist Vihara and resident monks, Venerable Dr. Kabalewe Siri Sumana, the head of the Plaistow Buddha Vihara, Venerable Makure Mangala, the head of the Eastham Buddhist Vihara, Venerable monks from Leicester Buddhist Vihara, Jethawana Buddhist Vihara, Birmingham, attended the ceremony in addition to the resident monks at the Letchworth Buddhist Vihara.

Kathina Dana along with the Kathina Cheevara was offered to the holy community of monks with great respect and devotion. This was followed by Kathina Dansela to all the participants. Ven Venerable Kamburawala Sri Rewatha Thero, Chief Sangha Nayake of Great Britain, gave a special Dhamma talk, which was very well received.

The event was organised by the management committee under the guidance of Venerable Nahalle Rahula thero, the head of the Vihara and the residence monk Venerable Nallure Sangharathana Thero. Also the members of the Vihara and well wishes, who had come from many part of the country gave their fullest support towards the success of the ceremony.
