The Poson celebration commenced by observing sill (retreat) by devotees on Thursday, 12th June, the full moon poya day and Saturday,14th June at the Letchworth Buddhist Temple. The sill program on both days were guided by the Chief Incumbent Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Thero and the visiting monk from Glasgow Temple Ven. Mathugama Palitha Thero., covering meditation, dhamma sermons, dhamma discussions, Buddha pooja and invoking blessings to all. A large turnout of devotees observed sill on both days.

In the afternoon, on 15th June, 2014 the Poson Celebration was held at St. Michael’s Church, Broad Way, Letchworth. The day’s event began by observing the Pancha Seela (Five Precepts) conducted by the Chief Incumbent Most Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Thero. followed by a special Dhamma sermon delivered by Most Ven. Dr. Sumanasiri Nayaka Thero. highlighting the importance of Poson for Sri Lankans. A senior member, Ms. Joan gave a short talk of happiness in life with mind fullness.

The other feature of the day was the Gilampasa Pooja and Pirikara offered by the devotees to Atawisi Buddhas. Ven. Mathugama Palitha Thero administered the Gilapasa pooja to twenty eight Buddhas, and Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith and invoked blessings to all. The event ended with a free food stall (dhansala) sponsored by Mr. Kamal Wijesuriya and his family and friends.

The both events were well attended by Sri Lankans living in The UK and the local residence. The Maha Sangha, The BCCL management committee members and the organizers wish to extend their appreciation to all those who attended the event and offered their support for making the events a great success.
